Cheesy Juicy Burgers LB Road Chennai

Visited Cheesy Juicy burgers on LB road for the first time tonight. Ordered "The boss" which is a spicy chicken burger with tandoori mayo as per their description. The menu was in tatters but all that doesn't matter if the food is good does it? grin emoticon

The place is very compact with four tables and open to the road. No privacy at all when you're literally stuffing your face. I knew this place had no place to wash the hands once done but still opted to eat there as I didn't want to end up with soggy burgers at home. Saw the chef squeezing out mayo with a vengeance and emptying a packet of mixed filling..no idea what that is...probably veggies. Decided to take a seat and wait for it to arrive. Was surprised to see the place empty.

Burger cost Rs. 225 including taxes and Rs. 41 for a pepsi can whose MRP is 25. Anyway, gave him a 500 rupees note..he asked for Rs. 5 which I gave and he gave me back change that was a hundred rupees less. Luckily noticed it and he gave me the hundred. No sorry or anything for this mistake. When checking I had got back Rs. 230 from him which I now realize was short by Rs. 9! Do be very careful to check the balance. I was too drained by the heat to care.

The burger arrived and it was very good. I had no clue how to start eating this and knew it was going to be monumentally messy. The funniest thing was them placing a single tissue on the side for the messy burger. Do they really think one tissue is enough? Seems stingy given that they would have seen umpteen number of people asking for more tissues. First bite and I managed coating my nose with mayo. One tissue down. Asked them for more before proceeding. The tandoori mayo was great and tastewise on point. However the bun started to stick to the plate and then it was very hard to gather and eat it. The burger bun really needs to be bigger in size to be manageable. It was tiny compared to the rest of it. Felt pretty full by the time I was done. Another issue is these guys haven't introduced any milkshakes yet. This seems quite odd given that it's a burger joint and people would like to order milkshakes along with it.

Finally, it's a nice place with some questionable service and no wash place which is a travesty in sweaty Chennai and at a "cheesy", "juicy" burger shop no less! Buy some water packets before you enter this place or get a home delivery! Will probably be a much better experience then.

Amadora Ice Cream, Khadar Nawaz Khan Road, Chennai

Well, this is one place that's solidly set into every Chennai foodie's regular dessert spots since the time it opened. And located on the road that is chock full of good restaurants, this cozy ice cream parlor is set in the lower portion of a house. You will see some expensive cars parked here with their owners getting out to indulge their sweet tooth. You may wonder if you can afford it. Well, it's expensive but they try to make it worth every penny quality and quantity wise. This visit with two friends was no different. Spotted the owner Deepak Suresh, tending to the ice creams himself while he gave instructions to the staff to heat up our brownie. :D

We ordered the famous combo of Caramelized white chocolate ice cream along with the Underbaked cake. If this combo ain't famous yet, it ought to be because it melds together in that perfect way. The underbaked cake is pure delight. Just has to be tried. But it is very heavy so take a few friends along if you don't want to fill up your tummy! We had tastes of the peanut butter ice cream which was very good too! You can ask for a small sample of any flavor you want to try before ordering a scoop.

Although a scoop costs close to 200 bucks here, personally I feel the quantity is almost 1.5 times or more the size of an Ibaco scoop. Amadora's ice creams are made in-house with ingredients sourced from within the country as much as possible. Their tagline is "Eat local, eat fresh." and they seem to be following it. The other item we ordered was the brownie which I hadn't seen in previous visits there. It costed 120 rupees and was another knockout. Very rich and full of chocolate of the best kind, the brownie was superb. The three of us struggled to finish one scoop of ice cream, underbaked cake and the brownie and almost lost our appetite for dinner! The bill came to around 450 bucks including taxes. Everytime I visit this place, end up trying the same combo and miss out on tasting the other flavours! They change their flavors weekly from what I've heard so it's interesting to check it out once in a while for the sheer variety.
