Beach night - Spartans chinese fast food, Marina Kulfi guy and Chukku kaapi

Had a bad sore throat the other evening so the first thing that came to mind was the Chukku kaapi guy who wanders from couple to bachelor's group at Marina beach. :P Wanted to have me a cuppa but as usual couldn't find any of those when I wanted.

By now I had walked past Titanic fastfood and thought of having some hot n spicy Chicken soup instead from one of these tuckshops. Had had the fried rice and chilly chicken from Titanic a few days back and wasn't impressed much by the taste of the chilli chicken although meat was tender. Very strong taste of vinegar n spicing was bad too. Fried rice however was good.

There are a bunch of Chinese fast food stalls around Titanic but I was looking out for one called Spartans since I have seen it being recommended on food groups recently.

After walking quite a distance from Titanic, Spartans was no where to be found but there were other stalls popping up most of them were "Chinese" but there were some surprises too. I've even had Burmese food at one of the stalls before.

Finally saw the lone stall almost near Vivekananda House and people were sitting on the sand rather than a load of plastic chairs. However there were a few chairs too. Overall it was a much more relaxed atmosphere than others since we need not wait around to get chairs n the server's attention and can get seated on a bedsheet and start ordering away.

Food:

Immediately asked for the Chicken soup (Rs 30), the other option was egg. The guy (owner probably) who takes the order here is a very entertaining personality so it was fun to watch him do his job interestedly and hear him utter something funny to most customers. For example a group asked him for the bill amount and his reply was, "Four five zero, neengalam hero!" :D

The soup was served up and he took a handful of fried chicken bits and sprinkled over it. Soup itself was very thick looking, dark and piping hot. I was worried if it may be too strong n spicy. Took a sip and it packed a real good punch. Ahh, like I expected it was almost an overdose of Chinese flavors but the spiciness and taste got better with each sip.

Dragon chicken - half portion - rs 50.
(Coloring ellam konjam over thaan!)

Asked if they can give a parcel of just half serving of Dragon chicken [rs 50]. This was had at home later, mildly sweet n tender chicken but the coloring was too much. However it tasted much better than Titanic and I enjoyed it. Total came to just Rs 80.

Chukku Kaapi man, near Titanic fast food, Marina beach.

After having the soup I was returning and now the Chukku kaapi guy appeared with his cycle and steel jars of beverage placed on the carrier. One cup was Rs 10. Was good but it wasn't hot enough and very sugary.

Kulfi guy Nagaraj, near Vivekananda house Marina beach

Done, I thought I was ready to return now but a group of people crowded around a person nearby again caught my attention. :D Wondered what he was selling. Looked like ice cream and yes, it was the famous guy, Nagaraj who sells Kulfi here in the night! Having heard a lot about this kulfi was eager to try it, sore throat be damned! Waited more than 20 minutes to get a kulfi for 30 rupees and it was worth it! Lot of almonds added in to the THICK kulfi milk it tasted excellent! There were also kulfi sticks available for 20 rs. He comes to near V house and hangs around there from 9 pm to 1 am. His number is 9884026920.
