Royal Biriyani, Opposite Thirumylai MRTS, Mylapore

Wasn't really hungry at 9:30 pm after getting some work done in Luz but after crossing the bridge in front of Thirumylai MRTS I noticed the usual biriyani kadai there had been completely renovated. I've never tried the biriyani here before. Called Royal biriyani, it looked bright n there was a good crowd there n few tables that were full. However I was a bit apprehensive to try this place bcoz the area around the bridge is quite filthy. But the hotel looked clean with the cashier taking orders right near the entrance n there was a glass enclosed kitchen where cooks were very busy making the usual Chinese etc. It was a pretty good setup for such a small place. Usually one finds them cooking in the pavement without botheration so decided to try a biriyani now. The nice rainy weather made me crave some food!

Unfortunately there wasn't biriyani or even just biriyani rice (kushka) available at that time. Checked out the cleanly printed big menu on the wall (another plus) and saw they had a quarter tandoori for just 70 bucks. Btw, this was the last tandoori they had. So chose that. While deciding what else to order I noticed the barottas looked very good, thick n soft so took a parcel of 2 of them as well. Rs 15 per parotta so the total came to just 100 bucks. It was self service for takeaway. Tandoori was packed in foil with a mint chutney packet thrown in.

Got home n served it up for myself. The tandoori chicken was really good! I was expecting dry, badly spiced stuff to be honest at this cost but this was fresh, tender n quite spicy tandoori meat. It really had that spicy punch that is lovely. And the mint chutney that was given tasted good too! Usually places in this price range mess up the mayo n mint dip badly. But this was excellent value for the price. If they are consistent with this taste it's great because this tasted better than many costlier places I've had it at.

Barottas like I guessed were good too. Quite thick n soft they were and the salna given was good. It was thin but tasted spicy n had a light kheema taste. Only thing I prefer it bit thicker.

All in all a surprisingly nice experience. Do hope this is not a one off good experience.
