When you think of Burmese food like Atho, you immediately think North Chennai near the Beach station where many such stalls are found. But now, more stalls have been coming up serving these thick noodles accompanied by the tasty banana stem soup. This is one such Burmese food stall that's been hidden in Mandaveli for a long time. Reason for this I'm guessing would be that the area under the Mandaveli MRTS station where this shop is located is not such a great one with the Tasmac right next door, most people would assume it is just for serving up some quick "sidedish" to go along with the cheap liquor. But once I recognized this was a burmese noodle shop had to try it.
I've had take away from this place twice and they have tasted good. Since I've not tasted the Burmese food from anywhere else I cannot compare but for 70 odd bucks for egg Atho and 80 for the chicken variant, it is a good deal. Can't say much for the hygiene, the shop is clean enough but the surrounding area is not. Just get your food and move out. :D They pack the noodles neatly in a foil wrap and the soup in a plastic packet. It's a good change when you're not wanting to take a chance with the local biriyani which can be hit and miss. They have the typical Atho, Moinga and soup in chicken and veg varieties. I've found the veg version to be tastier because first time, the fried chicken was mixed in with the noodles and got soggy by the time I get home. Now it is given separately. Fried chicken can be either for 25 or 50 bucks for which you get 3 and 5 pieces respectively.
All in all a nice place to check out if you're feeling adventurous. Will wait for others to confirm if the taste is authentic.
