This resto-bar looks quite inconspicuous from the outside during the day time although it has a huge board announcing itself. On entering the place, we were greeted with pretty chilled interiors and a dim lighting, like a typical bar. Not complaining, no one wants very bright lights in a bar after all. The ambiance reminded me of Diff 42 nearby in the same area. Since it was only around 1 pm, the place was quite deserted understandably. Being a pretty new bar, they are just getting started with things.
We were brought a Garlic bread starter at first which was crusty n got devoured quick. While waiting for starters to arrive we tried a cocktail each. Being a rum lover, I opted for the Planter's Punch (dark rum, angostura bitters, lime juice, simple syrup.) This was done well, packed a real punch from the dark rum and was great to sip along with the sides.
The Chicken Filo made from filo pastry came next. Extremely delicate and buttery it was a yummy side-eat, albeit a bit rich. A mutton kebab reached us next. This was a bit firm and not served piping hot but the flavor was still all there. A staple bar-eat. The bar is yet to start preparing beef dishes in the menu.
Next came an interesting dish. This was a Chicken Angara Kebab which was baked with a fluffy egg white topping! This was lower on spice than expected, the chunky chicken pieces were nicely cooked through and went superbly with the Hoegaarden beer which Evoke has on tap if Im not mistaken.
The vegetarian dishes like Chilli idly was well-done. Crunchy without overpowering spices but a lil oily which is okay. This isn't health food anyway. The Crispy vegetarian dishes were impressive too being served soon after preparation.
The fish fingers (beer battered) which came with the usual mayo were excellent. Very hot n with tender fish inside the
crunchy outside!
We were brought a nice chicken dish (Caribbean chicken) which again impressed me with the juicy meat and the olive on top was a nice touch on the palate.
A thin crust chicken pizza was brought. It seems its a pizza based on a dosa as the crust was that thin! It was good enough with a decent sauce and no untoward toppings.
Lastly there was the chicken fried rice which was lovely owing to the freshness of the preparation. The salt levels were just right along with lots of egg and bits of chicken present.
The other drinks I tasted were the Long Island Ice Tea (LIIT) which was good. Decently potent. The final cocktail was the house special, an "Infused Tea" made with 3 vodkas infused with Chilly, Star Anise, Ginger, Orange and topped off with a shot of beer! This one was a huge drink and could probably be shared by 2 people and still get you a bit tipsy. This one's not in the menu so ask for it if you wanna try it!
Overall a pretty good neibhorhood pub/resto-bar with nice food and a good variety of drinks and imported beers! For liquor price reference a large bottle of KF costs 370 odd here although this visit was on-the-house. There are not many entry restrictions at the moment unlike the other resto-bars since they are getting started so you can give it a try with your gentlemen buddies!
